Hello, and welcome to Filmivore! 

Founded in Summer 2009 and authored by Kevin Richey, Filmivore aims to provide high-quality content in an easy-to-navigate design. You can read more about Kevin Richey on his Bio Page. 

Review Philosophy:

The average film review is often a rambling essay that spends the majority of its text describing the film's basic plot, often with an ambiguously chosen star rating attached. The highest star rating is often shared by over ten films of the current year, and – as the top rating – is shared with the best films of all time. With this format, multiple critics must be sought out to get a balanced view of the film, and to make sense of rankings.

With this in mind, we wanted to create a better format for presenting film reviews.

The Five Elements:

Our goal is to present the major aspects of a film in a user-friendly format. We break down each review into five major elements (Plot, Character, Diction, Melody, and Spectacle), each described thoroughly and rated individually. These five ratings are averaged to gain the overall star rating. This way, it will be quite transparent how the final star rating was reached.

Trailers, Blog, DVDs and Soundtracks:

Beyond that, Filmivore is home to Trailers, DVD Releases, Soundtracks, and a Newsfeed. Trailers represent (roughly) the movies we plan to review. And DVD releases are current and upcoming titles on DVD and BluRay.
